ᴍᴀᴋɪɴɢ decisions ᴡɪᴛʜ ᴛʜᴇ 𝟏𝟎-𝟏𝟎-𝟏𝟎 ʀᴜʟᴇ
We often struggle to make difficult decisions, fearing we will make the wrong move, upset people we love, or not get the desired result, among other things. As a consequence, we freeze, feel paralyzed, and are unable to take action.
Sounds familiar? It does to me.
Next time you face a complex dilemma, try using the 10-10-10 rule (created by Suzy Welch).
This seemingly simple process suggests that decision-making should involve a clear understanding of short-, medium-, and long-term consequences of every complex or difficult decision.
Here is how the 10-10-10 works.
Write down your dilemma or issue.
Write all possible decision and solution options.
For each option in step 2, answer these three questions:
What are the consequences of my decision in 10 minutes?
In 10 months?
In 10 years?
The answers should help you make the most reasonable decision and provide enough background to explain your reasoning to others.
And finally, the most crucial step in any decision making framework is TACKING ACTION.
A decision without an action gets us nowhere. Let me help you take action now!
